Biography

Janice is a healthcare lawyer whose work at GGI focuses on healthcare governance and she has also developed a specialism in charity governance, having been involved in that sector for nearly 40 years.

She recently led the board effectiveness reviews for the Royal British Legion, the Royal Albert Hall and The Law Society.

Janice leads on developmental well-led reviews and prepares NHS organisations for CQC inspections. She also advises on governance arrangements including committee structures, terms of reference, membership, standing orders and standing financial instructions, schemes of reservation and delegation and the various legal requirements for these.

Janice joined GGI as a senior consultant in 2021 after three years as an independent consultant. Before that she worked for Capsticks Solicitors for 27 years, dealing with clinical negligence claims for 17 years and governance for 10 years.

She provides board development programmes and governance seminars including tailored chair and NED training, which she started doing many years ago for the Appointments Commission. She was an associate NED at a foundation trust for four years so has personal experience of the role.

She also advises health organisations on their risk management arrangements, including incident reporting and serious incident investigations, drawing on her background as a clinical negligence lawyer. She has also undertaken several high-profile investigations and enquiries.

Janice is involved with the third sector as a volunteer and has been a trustee of The Boys’ Brigade, both nationally and locally. She is currently a trustee of Oasis Charitable Trust. She has a particular interest in charity governance. She loves the theatre, music and good food.
