Leaders embrace diversity and seek out perspectives, ideas and insights that differ from their own. By bringing senior peers together, GGI's Action Learning Sets create incubators of innovation and shape leadership.

We are inviting leaders from any sector and from any organisation with a public purpose to expand their leadership thinking and expertise and join our 12-month programme, which offers:

  • protected time, focused exclusively on improving leadership
  • a space to learn and grow
  • an opportunity to develop lifelong learning networks
  • the chance to be part of a diverse and challenging group of leaders from different backgrounds who share a clear public purpose.

At GGI, we understand that leadership is not a position but a journey of continuous growth and adaptation.

What's involved?

Our action learning sets comprise:

  • participation in a 12-month leadership development journey facilitated by GGI
  • membership of a small, carefully assembled peer group, made up of around half a dozen leaders from a diverse range of backgrounds
  • a lightly structured learning programme capturing a range of learning and problem-solving.

The programme will include:

  • an initial half-day plenary focused on getting to know each other, shaping the programme, and setting out clear milestones and goals to kindle the spirit of collaborative problem-solving
  • quarterly in-person learning sets, focused on an agreed learning theme agreed by the group
  • monthly virtual check-ins designed to uphold the momentum of your professional development
  • sector-specific site visits, arranged from within the group and facilitated by GGI
  • a final ‘wash-up’ session to mark the conclusion of the first phase of the learning set as it evolves into a self-directing and self-sustaining leadership group.

What will I get out of it?

Our programme will give participants invaluable insight into:

  • Authentic leadership: Discovering the essence of your leadership identity, shaped by your values and personal outlook.
  • Competency & complementarity: Embracing the art of assembling high-performing teams that magnify each member’s strengths.
  • The power of networks: Developing a better understanding of the power of networks and their role in driving social change.
  • Embracing uncertainty and leading in complexity: Equipping you to lead in an era where change is the only constant—be confident in volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous (VUCA) environments.
  • Personal resilience: Balance the demands of leadership with personal well-being and the wellbeing of others to sustain performance at the highest level.

Entry and timing

Entry to each GGI learning set will be via a process of application and interview. This will help to ensure a good balance within each cohort.

We are currently inviting applications for spring 2024.
