Who we are

We are a highly respected independent consultancy, rated by the Financial Times as a top management consultancy for four years in a row, since 2018.

Our main market sector is healthcare and most of our clients are in the NHS, although we also have a significant presence in higher education. We have also worked with national sporting bodies, professional associations, charities and arts organisations. Our leadership have all held senior positions in large, complex public sector organisations. We are also an institute, providing thought leadership on good governance. The institute element of our work is what sets us apart. Through the institute we return significant value to the public and third sector through our research and publication programmes, our development events and networks.

Our consultancy work supports the research and knowledge sharing of our institute, and our advocacy work through the National Commission.

We are always interested to hear from skilled, experienced, knowledgeable professionals from all backgrounds (legal, housing, local government, NHS, third sector, private sector) who can add value to what we do. Want your experience and expertise to contribute to our quality consultancy and thought leadership work?

Our mission

We exist to help create a fairer, better world. Our part in this is to support those who run the organisations that:

  • affect how humanity uses resources
  • care for the sick
  • educate future generations
  • develop our professionals
  • create wealth
  • nurture sporting excellence
  • inspire through the arts
  • communicate the news
  • ensure all have decent homes
  • transport people and goods
  • administer justice and the law
  • design and introduce new technologies
  • produce and sell the food we eat.

We work to make sure that organisations are run by the most talented, skilled and ethical leaders possible and work to fair systems that consider all, use evidence, are guided by ethics and thereby take the best decisions. Good governance of all organisations, from the smallest charity to the greatest public institution, benefits society as a whole. It enables organisations to play their part in building a sustainable, better future for all.
