Good Governance Handbook Summary

Since GGI and the Health Quality Improvement Partnership (HQIP) published the Good Governance Handbook in 2010, the NHS has changed dramatically.
The updated Good Governance Handbook is focussed on the developing role of clinicians in management and resource allocation, and should help existing and aspirant Clinical, Nursing, Medical and Non-executive Directors, as well as those who support and challenge them, to understand and apply good governance in today’s NHS.
In this handbook, we describe 10 themes that illuminate different aspects of good governance that we developed in consultation with experts from various NHS provider and commissioning organisations. For each of these themes, we describe the practical application of each principle at board/governing body, division and department level within healthcare provider organisation.
This summary gives an overview of the key themes and corresponding assurance questions at board, division and department level.
