Biography

John is the founder of the Good Governance Institute. He has published and lectured widely and internationally on health governance, quality, best value and benchmarking. He has now established the Centre for Quality in Governance (CQG) to consolidate his experience and learning in a suite for e-learning modules and other resources.

John introduced many of GGI’s publications and products, including maturity matrices, board assurance prompts, risk appetite, governance between organisations, challenge, scrutiny and review. He updated the seminal Integrated Governance Handbook ten years after his original launch for the Department of Health.

John is a former VFM auditor, board director of a health authority, visiting fellow at the Open University Business School and the University of South Wales and has lectured on the Bolton Business School Global Healthcare Markets MBA.

He was a member of the Health Minister’s National Advisory Board in Wales, a peer reviewer for Healthcare Inspectorate Wales, board secretary to the all-industry Benchmarking Institute and an advisor and peer reviewer for a number of public, business and professional organisations.

He is actively supporting the NI and UK Boardroom Apprentice Programme, whose apprentices benefit from complimentary copies of the CQG e-learning modules.
