Modern governance is about taking responsibility for the long-term challenges we face - the social, economic, technological, cultural and political issues which will shape all our futures.

The aim of modern governance is to enable the right things to happen - ethically, morally and practically. It starts with a genuine commitment to putting in place the right governance mechanics and dynamics which will secure our best possible future. This commitment is already built into the cutting-edge work we are doing with clients and in our Faculty and Academy.

Our approach is wholly collaborative, as no-one has all the answers right now. Our aim is to help grow understanding of what will work, what needs to change, and how those with responsibility now also take responsibility for the future. It requires the right sort of support and challenge around learning, thinking and doing which will make a real difference in practice. That is what we provide.

We are working across and between sectors - on the governance of collaboration in newly emerging systems which reflect joint aspirations, on long-term partnerships which are needed to secure great outcomes across traditional boundaries, and on what the board of the future needs to look like and spend its time on, to get ahead of the curve.

Modern governance flows through all our work - in board development, in modern risk management, in reviews, in the development of skills and diversity and in streamlining governance processes and structures.

And modern governance is in our tools and resources and in our events where the big questions are explored with peers and action taken as a result.

Our work is already focusing on what digital good governance really means and what it needs to look like. And we are looking at how governance needs to change radically to truly embrace commitments to sustainability, diversity and inclusion and fast-moving changes in what work means to people.

University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay Trust (UHMBT) have been working with GGI for around eight months now; the core part of this work is a review of our Trust governance and assurance structures and processes.
