Good Governance Maturity Matrix

January 2015

The Good Governance Maturity Matrix illustrates how to progress from your organisation’s current progress level in 10 key areas of governance to where you aim to be in 12 months’ time.

It accompanies the updated Good Governance Handbook which is focussed on the developing role of clinicians in management and resource allocation, and should help existing and aspirant Clinical, Nursing, Medical and Non-executive Directors, as well as those who support and challenge them, to understand and apply good governance in today’s NHS.

In the handbook, we describe 10 themes that illuminate different aspects of good governance that we developed in consultation with experts from various NHS provider and commissioning organisations. The Good Governance Maturity Matrix provides guidance on how an organisation can progress in each of these areas.
