Biography

Before joining the North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust in December 2017, Maria was chief executive of the Barnet Enfield and Haringey Mental Health NHS trust, which specialised in mental health and community services in North London.

Maria was there for ten years, during which she initiated the redevelopment of St Ann's Hospital, the acquisition of community services, expansion of the New Care Model for forensic services and other organisational development programmes.

She also worked as executive director at North West London Strategic Health Authority between 2002 and 2006, where she was responsible for strategy, planning, corporate development, communications and engagement.

In 2019 Maria was made an OBE for services to leadership in healthcare over two decades, particularly in North London. She has previously been a trustee of Open Mind, Umbrella Mental Health, Young Minds, as well as an adviser to the Lullaby Trust and a special adviser to the Care Quality Commission. She was also chair of governors of a primary school in Tottenham for ten years.

Maria Kane has been appointed the new chief executive of North Bristol NHS Trust and will start in April 2021.
