GGI National NHS NED Development Programme: Peer to Peer Weekly Webinar | 18 June 2021 | Zoom Conference Call

Date: 18 June 2021

Time: 10:00 - 11:00am

Location: Zoom Conference Call

As part of its mission to promote good governance, GGI will host this facilitated, virtual meeting to give NHS non-executive directors an opportunity to share their concerns, challenges and ideas as we rethink the future of health and social care. The goal is to collectively think about the role NEDs play as part of the controlling mind of their organisations, to discuss immediate safeguarding issues and to ensure we all learn from this experience to assure better outcomes for citizens in the future. If you would like to join this meeting, please email events@good-governance.org.uk.

Theme: Shaping the integrated care agenda for mental health

  • What constitutes effective integrated care in mental health?
  • How can mental health be effectively integrated into ICS?
  • How should Trust Boards view empowerment in the context of mental health services?
  • What role will ICPs play in the delivery of integrated mental health?
  • How does integrated care relate to existing models of care in mental health?

About Patrick:
Patrick began his career in the NHS in 1978 as a nursing assistant in a large psychiatric hospital. He trained as a mental health nurse and worked in a number of clinical and management roles in the Midlands and the North West. Before retiring from full time work in the NHS, Patrick was an executive director of nursing.

Since 2014, Patrick has been a non-executive director at North Staffordshire Combined Health Care where he Chairs the Quality Committee.
In addition to his work as a NED, Patrick worked as a Mental Health Act Reviewer for the CQC, on a part time basis for five years. He continues to work as a specialist lay member of the First Tier Tribunal service (Health, Education and Social Care Chamber), regularly sitting on Mental Health Review Tribunals and Chair the Independent Monitoring Board of a women’s prison in Staffordshire.

Patrick holds a Masters degree in Health Policy and Management with a particular interest in policy implementation. In 2019 he completed a PhD in Bioethics and Medical Jurisprudence. Patrick has published a number of papers in peer reviewed Journals on issues related to mental health practice, policy and ethics.

Fun Fact – Patrick is a season ticket holder at Stoke City (he says someone has to go), in fact he has watched football in every league including what was the conference (not all watching Stoke City).
