Developing People

Leadership development is essential to ensure boards succeed. Through coaching and mentoring, action learning sets, study tour visits, retreats, external assessment and constructive challenge sessions we help individuals on boards or aspiring to be on boards build their skills, abilities and careers.

We have:

  • run a series of learning sets for Directors of Public Health in London
  • facilitated a series of masterclasses to build change management skills with public health specialists in London
  • working with Hays, we contributed to the South West Leadership Development Programme
  • hosted a series of high-level masterclasses and discussion events
  • with NHS London's Leading for Health, we facilitated bringing to the UK Rick Belluzzo (former CEO of Microsoft) and Professor Mervyn King (the South African Supreme Court Judge and author the King I, II and II reports on corporate governance) for masterclasses with NHS leaders
  • worked with Chairs, CEOs, directors and board secretaries providing individual coaching and mentoring support
  • hosted a series of discussion dinners at the Royal Society of Medicine and networking events, such the launch of 'Governing the New NHS'
  • contributed to individual training sessions for boards and other teams. these have included induction training for new boards of social enterprises

Because of our ongoing series of national studies, we can weave in to our leadership development the opportunity to take part in national development work. Leaders often develop by doing, and GGI provides opportunities to take part in shaping national thinking on governance, risk and health policy thinking. We ran think tank sessions bringing in individuals from boards to our reports on:

  • Long Term Conditions
  • The Principles of Governance, a partnership with the Health Quality Improvement Partnership
  • Patient Safety
  • Patient Safety and Cost Savings
  • Quality and Cost Savings
  • Safeguarding
  • Cycle of Business
