Governance Practice in CCGs
Hard-wiring better governance practice into the new CCGs is an essential element to pathfinder authorisation, and GGI has been developing thinking on the appropriate governance of CCGs since the NHS reforms were announced in August 2010. GGI and Capsticks Solicitors LLP conducted research into GP attitudes around governance and published two White Papers on the new CCGs earlier this year.
GGI has now been working with a range of CCGs to advance their governance practice in anticipation of their authorisation by the National Commissioning Board. Our research with Capsticks brought us into contact with many pathfinders, and we worked with a group of aspiring CCGs in the West Midlands earlier in the year helping to build an appreciation of better governance practice and how this would support GPs in their new role on CCG boards. GGI have now been working with a number of London CCGs. In partnership with Capsticks, we have been appointed under the NHS London leadership development programme to work with the CCGs at Wandsworth and Hounslow. We have also been working with the board of the Southwark CCG and the Southwark Business Support Unit around developing a better understanding of risk appetite. This work will shortly be published (contact john.bullivant@good-governance.org.uk for further details).
GGI is also developing thinking around conflict of interest for CCG boards. For further details contact andrew.corbett-nolan@good-governance.org.uk
