Integrated Goverance Handbook - A handbook for executives and non-executives in healthcare organisations published by the Department of Health, 2006 (Gateway 5947). Revised by NHS Bradford in 2009. This handbook is for NHS boards for their continued development towards good governance principles. Whilst this version is aimed primarily at NHS trusts, primary care trusts (PCTs) may also find it useful.

The handbook was revised by NHS Bradford and Airedale in 2009, Chairman John Chuter said "The Integrated Governance Handbook was a seminal work in influencing corporate governance in the NHS and promoting the role of the Board Secretary. Whilst recognising the importance of clinical issues to Boards it sought to ensure they were aligned and mainstreamed on the Board’s agenda, not delegated to sub committees. The Integrated Governance Handbook needs to be read in conjunction with the Audit Committee handbook (HFMA/DH Gateway 5706), which reinforced the independent role of Audit Committees in ensuring ALL the business of the Trust was held up to scrutiny albeit focusing on process not content. The IG handbook in 2006 focused on standards for better health as an underpinning feature of the Board Assurance Framework and Board Agendas. As the authors have illustrated in the Governance Between Organisations debate paper, boards are now encouraged to be equally concerned with issues at the boundary such as continuity of care, reputational risk and sound partnering arrangements."
